We’ve always liked the G-Wagon and have had various versions over the years and this latest edition doesn’t disappoint.
The new Mercedes G63 AMG is a £150,000 SUV with very distinctive looks and yes, it’s very expensive but it’s also very exclusive too – you don’t see many of these chaps on the road.
So what’s changed from the old model? Well for a start it’s faster and more powerful than its predecessor and is capable of accelerating from standstill to 62mph in just 4.5sec and reaching a top speed of 149mph.
It’s got a new V8 engine with a 9 speed automatic gearbox combined with a newly conceived AMG Performance 4Matic four-wheel drive system, providing a more rearward biased delivery of power, and reworked suspension.
The new V8 engine is now a 4.0-litre twin turbocharged petrol unit, replacing the old 5.5-litre engine.
And for “greater comfort and stability” it boasts an aluminium body shell and widened ladder frame chassis.
So that all sounds great – and it is great. It really is a unique piece of kit.
And all that needs to be decided now is: Should we go for the Mercedes G63 AMG or the Range Rover Sport SVR??……
